OPENING UP THE UMBRELLA– AN OVERVIEW FROM UNDERNEATH
Established in 2001 by Managing Director Jeff Harrison, Umbrella Entertainment is a 100% Australian owned and operated distributor of filmed entertainment that specialises in a wide range of content for theatrical exhibition, home entertainment, TV broadcasting and video on demand through digital delivery.
Since its inception Umbrella has amassed a catalogue of over 1,500 titles and has one of the largest collections of restored classic Australian films & TV shows in the country. Umbrella's vision is to bring these Aussie films back to life through High Definition remastering, and to make these Australian films available for future generations so they can learn about Australian history as told through film.
Theatrically, Umbrella is a relatively new player in the market but has enjoyed great success with Emilio Estevez’s THE WAY, starring Martin Sheen. The film grossed close to $2.5M at the Box Office and from a 1st week release on 35 screens, the film expanded to 110 screens in its theatrical season.
Current and upcoming internationally acclaimed theatrical releases include the Woody Allen romantic drama YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER, French comedy CAMILLE REWINDS, and STILL MINE - starring Academy Award nominees James Cromwell and Geneviève Bujold.
In the coming year Umbrella will release the international films ON MY WAY, starring actress and international icon Catherine Deneuve and HUNTING ELEPHANTS with the legendary Sir Patrick Stewart written by the acclaimed writer/director of LOST ISLANDS and the producer of THE BAND’S VISIT Reshef Levi.
Umbrella is also active on the home front with two new Australian films in production, PATRICK starring Rachel Griffiths, Charles Dance and Sharni Vinson, which has international sales distribution through Bankside Films, and THE BABADOOK starring Essie Davis - distributed internationally via EOne. Also coming out this August, one of the hottest Australian rock documentaries of the decade: BLOKES YOU CAN TRUST.
Umbrella’s commitment to its releases is second to none, with a dedicated theatrical booking manager and marketing team, delivering uniquely tailored campaigns that outline the full life of the title.
