King Charles, following defeat at the Battle of Worcester, seeks sanctuary at Arnescote, and is helped to disguise himself by the servants before fleeing into exile.John Fletcher leaves for London while Anne remains with their son, Martin at Arnsecote. As she admits her true feelings for General Horton they declare their love. Her brother Tom is furious and seeks revenge on Horton in a bloody swordfi ght. Cromwell's rule ends and Charles II is restored as King - but what will this mean to all at Arnescote Castle?
