Synopsis
The charm, grace and novelty of Rodgers and Hammersteins 1958 Broadway hit has been wonderfully translated to the screen in this unforgettable 1961 romantic musical. A four-way love story set in San Francisco's Chinatown, the films cast of rivals and lovers include Nancy Kwan (Noble House), a gold-digging, husband-hungry nightclub dancer; Jack Soo, a well-meaning nightclub owner; James Shigeta (Die Hard), handsome, rich and the most eligible bachelor in Chinatown; and Miyoshi Umeki (Sayonara), a meek mail-order bride and stowaway who has made the long trip from China for an arranged wedding with Soo. With rousing orchestrations and charming song-and-dance interludes, this heart-warming fable from the golden age of Hollywood musicals deservedly won five Oscar nominations, including Best Music.
