Synopsis

In the 1950s, producer and director Roger Corman produced innumerable B-movie hits for the teen drive-in circuit, and this tense hostage melodrama stands as one of the classics. Corman regular Dick Miller (Terminator, The Howling) stars as Shorty, a much-maligned hanger-on at the Cloud Nine Tavern. Shorty’s hot-headed pugnaciousness comes in handy when a pair of gunmen played by Russell Johnson (The Professor in Gilligan’s Island) and Jonothan Haze invade the Cloud Nine, taking the patrons hostage to hold off the police.

Mel Welles, who later played the flower-store proprietor in Little Shop of Horrors, is a riot as a hip-talking showbiz agent. Also on hand is Abby Dalton, the soon-to-be-star of Corman’s Viking Woman and Sea Serpent. The films rockin’ musical interludes are provided by the Platters and the Blockbusters.
