Synopsis

With the 400 Blows, the great François Truffaut revolutionised cinema and launched the French New Wave while introducing his alter-ego - the charming, romantic and impetuous Antoine Doinel - to the film world. Doinel was famously played by Jean-Pierre Léaud in five films between 1959 and 1979, and each can now be savoured in one stunning DVD collection.

400 Blows (1959)
The story of a rebellious young boy who flees his indifferent parents, finds refuge in the cinema, and winds up in a juvenile home, The 400 Blows was praised by film-makers and critics the world over and established Truffaut as the pre-eminent director of the Nouvelle Vague.
Winner of Best Director at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival (in award wreaths)

Stolen Kisses (1968)
The classic romantic comedy begins in 1968 with the mischievous and perpetually love-struck Doinel having been dishonourably discharged from the army and released onto the streets of Paris, where he stumbles into the unlikely profession of private detective and embarks on a series of misadventures.

"A movie I'll cherish for a very long time, a lovely, human movie…strong, sweet, wise, and often explosively funny." Vincent Canby, New York Times

Extras:
Antoine and Collette (1962)
Truffaut’s greatest short film, a beautiful vignette of a teenage Doinel living on his own in Paris, pursuing his first love affair, and initiating a lifelong career of quixotic dreams and amorous restlessness.

Bed and Board (1970)
The fourth film in Truffaut's series finds Doinel with everything he desired in his youth: a beautiful, devoted wife (Claude Jade), the support of his in-laws, the affection of all who know him. But Antoine is still unable to restrain his passions, falling in with a seductive Japanese mistress (Hiroku Berghauer) before the surreal tryst self-destructs.

Love on the Run (1975)
Doinel is now in his late 30s and newly divorced. Still ambivalent about relationships, the rath of Doinel's mother forces him to confront his insecurities and rekindle some past relationships. Clips and characters from the four previous "Doinel" films makes this charming and sentimental film a must-see for any Truffaut fan.
