Synopsis
One of music's most enigmatic talents, Roger "Syd" Barrett burned briefly and brightly leaving an indelible mark upon psychedelic and progressive rock as the founder and original singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist of Pink Floyd. This fascinating documentary traces the creative and personal tumult of Barrett's days with Pink Floyd, and the fallout from his breakdown caused by psychedelic drugs. Barrett penned all the songs on the group's legendary debut "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn".
However due to erratic and bizarre behaviour, which made him too difficult to work with, he left and/or was fired from the group in 1968. After a period of hibernation Barrett re-emerged in 1970 with "The Madcap Laughs" and "Barrett". With increasing psychological problems, Barrett withdrew into near-total seclusion after these releases, and has never released any subsequent material. Today, he rarely appears in public at all, let alone to perform.
Barrett's fellow Pink Floyd colleagues, and former manager Peter Jenner -all contribute highly candid, honest and revealing interviews to this acclaimed documentary - a film that not only strips away the mystique of Syd Barrett, but also that of the Floyd itself.
