Synopsis

Ian Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division, has become an iconic figure since his suicide in 1980, a month after the band released their first international hit, "Love Will Tear Us Apart”. His life and the story of Joy Division - the subject of the films Control and 24 Hour Party People - are celebrated in this compelling documentary that traces the growth of the band in the post-punk years to its reincarnation as New Order after Curtis’ death. Along with fascinating interviews with Mick Middles, co-author of Torn Apart: The Life Of Ian Curtis, Ex-Mojo Magazine editor, Pat Gilbert and others, this essential review of the seminal indie act includes rare live footage of Curtis and the band performing live, and short clips from the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Clash, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, and New Order performing “Blue Monday” live in 1983.
