Synopsis

With roots sprouting from the doo wop sounds of the urban East Coast to the blues from the Deep South, Rock ‘n’ Roll music grew to define a new global phenomenon of youth culture. Celebrating half a century of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rock And Roll at 50 is a one-of-a-kind concert featuring early rockers Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Gary U.S. Bonds, pop rockers Lesley Gore, Paul and Paula, Darlene Love, and early British invasion icons Gerry Marsden of Gerry and The Pacemakers and The Manfreds (successor to Manfred Mann) and many more as they remind us that “Rock and Roll is here to stay.”

The concert was recorded live on May 13 and 14, 2003, at The Benedum Center For The Performing Arts and on May 18, 2003 at the Camberley Theatre, Surrey, England and first broadcast as a PBS pledge special in December.
