Synopsis

Peter Sellers, in one of his finest early roles, plays the wry, mild-mannered Mr Martin, the lifetime employee of a Scottish tweed company moved to murder when the firm is taken over by a brash American woman. Following the death of Old MacPherson, patriarch of the hallowed House of MacPherson tweed company, an arrogant, pushy efficiency expert, who, heaven forbid, is not only American, but a woman, is brought in to sort things out. The staffers are horrified, and the once deferential Mr Martin devises a series of cunning ploys to bring about her downfall. Based on a story by James Thurber (cartoonist for the New Yorker), The Battle of the Sexes sees Sellers explore the full range of his comic and character acting genius.
