Synopsis
Alan Alda (M*A*S*H, The Aviator) and Oscar-winner Ellen Burstyn (Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore) play a perfect couple who love each other dearly. But there’s one problem. They’re both married to other people. Burstyn, a 24-year-old Oakland housewife, and Alda, a 27-year-old accountant from New Jersey, meet fatefully at a California resort in 1951 and have a fling.
Realizing that they’re in love, the couple commit to a yearly rendevoux at the same location, starting a torrid, 26-year-long affair. Altered by the global events of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s - illustrated with provocative images from the era - and by their personal challenges, the couple grow and change as the years roll by, but they never lose site of the fact that they’ve found their true soul mates.
