Synopsis

A nostalgic look back at 1960s Chicago, Cooley High is a humorous and poignant coming-of-age story, blending the classic sense of American Graffiti and Stand By Me with the cutting edge of acclaimed gangster tale Boyz 'N The Hood.
A pivotal era in US history, Cooley High picks up in 1964 just after the assasination of JFK. It is a time of change, where Motown music cuts a groove into mindset of the youth of the day, inspiring a generation of cool cats to break loose and party hard.
For high school students Preach (Glynn Turman, Super 8) and Cochise (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Alex Haley's Roots) it is an opportunity to cut class, crash parties and live life to the fullest - with an underlying dream to hustle their way from their current impoverished situation into a better neighbourhood. But when a misguided joy ride through town puts them up against a couple of shady hoods, innocence takes a back seat for the ready roll of adventure as the two upstarts live fast and try their hardest not to die young.
Pounding out hit songs from the likes of The Supremes and directed by Michael Schultz (Car Wash, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band), Cooley High is a lively class room classic.
