With TV in its infancy, 1958 heralded the beginning of the much-loved national television triumph – Bandstand. Created by TCN-9 executive Bruce Gyngelland modelled on the successful American musical /variety show of the same name, Bandstand was hosted by the ever-charming Brian Henderson- setting the standard for 14 entertaining years and presenting an astonishing 1500 local and international acts during its illustrious reign.
Featuring 11 classic episodes from 1967-1968 across 3 DVDs, Best of Bandstand Volume 9 includes performances from legendary Aussies such as Lucky Starr, Alan Dean, Judy Stone, Tony Barber, Col Joye, the De Kroo Brothers, Robyn Alvarez's sister Lindy Lou and a fresh-faced Johnny Farnham. Included are several special broadcasts such as the Overseas Artists Special, featuring super stars such as Liza Minnelli, Roy Orbison and The Shadows, the Frank Sinatra Songbook Special, a Country Music Special, Irish Pop sensation The Bachelors Special, the Lorne Lesley Special, Ray Anthony's Book End Revue and the inaugural Junior Bandstand episode. Here Brian Henderson presents some very talented youngsters - aged between 7 and 12 years - as they sing classic children's songs and dance alongside the excitable and enigmatic Humphrey B.
