BP SUPERSHOW - ARTUR RUBINSTEIN - LIVE IN AUSTRALIA
Regarded by many as the greatest interpreter of composer Frederic Chopin’s work, world renowned pianist Artur Rubinstein entertained audiences with his profound keyboard skills for an impressive eight decades, visiting Australia on a number of occasions.
In August 1964, GTV9 aired an exclusive Rubinstein recital as part of their prestigious BP Supershow series, capturing the 75 year-old pianist at the height of his career. At the time it was only the fourth recital he had ever recorded for television and, ever the consummate professional, he insisted on re-recording it after the first performance to ensure that the finished version was nothing short of perfect.
The program includes: ‘Grande Polonaise in A-Flat, Opus 53’ (Chopin), ‘Le Plus Que Lente’ (Debussy), ‘Prelude in A-Minor’ (Debussy), ‘Nocturn for the Left Hand’ (Scriabin) and ‘Punchinello’ (Villa-Lobos).
