MESMERIZED

Synopsis

On the cusp of becoming a woman, eighteen year-old Victoria (Academy Award® winner Jodie Foster, Silence of The Lambs) has grown up within the confines of an orphanage. Sheltered from the world, she is given an opportunity to integrate into society with the help of successful businessman Oliver Thompson (Academy Award® nominee John Lithgow, Terms of Endearment). Lonely and in search of a wife, Oliver's affections represent a better life for Victoria and, despite their age difference and knowing little about him, Victoria accepts his offer of marriage.
But there is a dark side to this seemingly affluent and amiable man and it is not long before Victoria discovers the ugly truth about her husband. Subjected to Oliver's cruel, controlled world of mental and sexual abuse with no one to turn to Victoria is forced to search her soul for answers and defend herself the only way she knows how - with the mesmerizing power of the mind.
A haunting tale of romance and murder set in 1880s colonial New Zealand, Mesmerized is based on a dramatic true story - produced by Jodie Foster, Antony I Ginnane and expertly adapted by award winning screenwriter Jerzy Skolimowski (Essential Killing).
