Six Umbrella Films to Watch this FFFA

From the shadows of the unconventional to the spotlight of Melbourne and Sydney cinema screens, Fantastic Film Festival Australia (FFFA) promises a spectacle of the weird, wonderful, and wholly unexpected.

Here's six Umbrella films to watch in this year's program!

  1. Penny Lane Is Dead is a rip-roaring debut feature from Mia’Kate Russell that blends pitch-black ocker humour and blood-splattering horror with a distinctly Australian twist.
  2. Dead Eyes is an Australian first-person horror from filmmaker Richard E. Williams, who has built a creature feature centring on grief’s capacity to warp not only the mind, but the world itself.
  3. The Astrologer is a totally batshit Citizen Kane-esque rags-to-riches tale from a true amateur auteur, the ultimate cinematic face-melter that demands to be seen with an audience.
  4. Uzumaki is based on the work of legendary horror mangaka Junji Itō and tells the nightmarish story of a small town whose inhabitants become increasingly obsessed with spirals.
  5. Suicide Club is the subversive J-horror classic that was allegedly inspired by Japan’s rising suicide rate and the influence of pop culture on the nation’s disaffected youth.
  6. Dark Water from director Hideo Nakata follows up the success of his supernatural horror classic Ringu with this gothic ghost story of tragedy and neglect.
